Westland Infra adopts Vision Cloud Solution

Measurement Data Module for data-driven network management

The energy transition demands a lot from our low-voltage networks. Operating in a more data-driven way allows grid operators to respond more quickly and effectively to voltage and load fluctuations. The new Vision Cloud Solution Measurement Data Module offers robust support by making smart use of measurement data from smart meters. This gives grid operators valuable insight and concrete information for effective, data-driven management of the low-voltage networks. One company to recently adopt the Vision Cloud Solution Measurement Data Module is Westland Infra.

Available to all users

The Measurement Data Module is actively under development. At the moment it has five functions for Asset Management and Errors & Maintenance. These functions use the legally available smart meter data to generate various types of insight:

  1. general overview of voltage situation;
  2. detailed view of voltage situation;
  3. verification of registered vs. real PV plants;
  4. improved error solution through ‘pinging’ smart meters;
  5. insight into error history (for example for compensation.

These functions allow grid operators to access concrete information about their low-voltage distribution networks. The data they gather forms the basis for effective measures to safeguard the quality of these networks. The functions of the Measurement Data Module are available for connection to your own meter front-end through the open API.

Tap setting optimization

The Measurement Data Module was recently adopted by Vision Cloud Solution user Westland Infra. Thanks to Westland Infra’s involvement, we were able to realize the next innovation: the integration of seasonal measurements and tap setting optimization.

The tap setting of a transformer adjusts the voltage for an entire low-voltage network upwards or downwards. Because a tap setting has limited regulation capabilities it is not always possible to solve all voltage problems in this way. The function for tap setting optimization allows the Vision Cloud Solution user to determine, on the basis of seasonal measurements, whether adjusting the tap setting will help correct the voltage.

Further development

We are continuing to expand the Measurement Data Module. The following new functions have been planned:

  • Imbalance Detection & Connection Recommendation detects imbalances and gives recommendations on new connections;
  • MV Network Quality analyzes the voltages of the first three-phase meter behind a transformer. This gives insight into the voltage quality of the medium-voltage distribution network overhead;
  • Network Opening & Main Cable Detection and Phase Detection determine what main cable and phase a connection is connected to.

The active involvement of grid operators such as Westland Infra is a great boost for further development of the Measurement Data Module and other functions of Vision Cloud Solution.
