Nettoets (Grid Check) helps to assess new connections

Engineers are given more flexibility for handling more complex requests.

The Nettoets (Grid Check) in Vision Cloud Solution automates the process of checking grid reinforcements and new power grid connections. Stedin is now taking this functionality one step further. Incoming requests at Stedin are assessed automatically by the Nettoets. Requests with a positive assessment do not need to be checked by an engineer anymore; they are submitted right away. This reduces processing times and provides customers with a quicker insight in their request. It also allows for the Stedin engineers to be assigned to the more complex requests, which is where they are needed most.

The Nettoets will perform this first check on the basis of the available calculation results of all low-voltage networks in the Netherlands in Vision Cloud Solution. The decision tree that we use for this has a specific set of rules for every connection category, and factors in the grid’s current load and voltage situation.

If the assessment result is negative, the request does get introduced into the engineer’s work order process, where everything is ready to realize the required connection as efficiently as possible. Thus, the requested reinforcement or new connection will be automatically included in the network model. All necessary calculations will then be done to assess the impact of this extension on the grid. Only those requests that cause congestion on the network will still be assessed manually by an engineer.

The development of the Nettoets was begun in 2021 by Phase to Phase and Alliander. Since then, the Nettoets has been developed further in collaboration with various grid operators.
